Use a shared toolkit

A shared toolkit gets you a working set of tools in a few minutes instead of an afternoon of searching. Find one in Community or open a link someone sent you, add it to your account, then pick it for a launch.

Adding it and launching with it are two separate steps, so nothing reaches your computer until you choose it.

Add a shared toolkit to your account

1. Open Community toolkits in the web app, or open the share link you received. Public toolkit pages can be previewed without signing in.
2. Review the description, contents, source repositories, coding-app compatibility, and publisher. In Community, filter by use case, app, or content type.
3. Choose Use or Use this toolkit. Sign in when prompted; the selected listing is retained through sign-in.
4. Choose Follow updates or Save a copy, then confirm.
5. Open Toolkits and find your newly added toolkit.

With Follow updates, your toolkit takes the update when the person who shared it shares one, and tools you changed stay as you left them. With Save a copy, you keep the toolkit as it is today, and later updates never change it. Either way the toolkit is yours to edit.

Launch with it in your project

On the new toolkit’s Contents, open the details of any tool marked Setup required to see how to add its key. A missing key never stops a launch; the launch leaves that server out until its key is on your computer. Connect your computer if it is not connected.

In the Code Config app, choose your project and explicitly select the new toolkit before launching. To make it the usual choice, set the project’s default toolkit.

Adding the toolkit does not automatically change a project’s default or a coding app that is already open.

Check it worked

Confirm the toolkit is in your account, then find and try one of its tools in a new launch. Review the setup and conversion notes; a tool listed in the toolkit may not have loaded.

Updates

A followed toolkit takes each new version the next time your computer syncs. A tool you changed or removed stays as you left it, and a name or description you changed stays yours.

To stay on the version you have, open the toolkit, choose Change next to Updates, and pick Stay on this version.

If a shared toolkit stops being available

A withdrawn, reviewed, or blocked listing can stop being available for new use. Existing saved toolkits are not deleted; followed toolkits report the source status. A saved copy keeps working without its source.
