Choose a coding app
Your toolkits aren’t tied to one coding app. Code Config launches four: the Claude app, Claude Code CLI, the Codex app, and Codex CLI. The same toolkit works in Claude Code CLI today and the Codex app tomorrow, so you can try a different app without rebuilding your setup.
The catch is that Claude and Codex understand different sets of tools. Claude takes most kinds as written; Codex converts many of them into its own formats, and a few kinds don’t carry over at all. This page helps you pick an app and see what carries over.
Which app to start with
Section titled “Which app to start with”- Already use one? Stay with it. Code Config sets up your toolkit for the app you know.

- Prefer a window to a terminal? The Claude app and the Codex app open your project with your toolkit in their own window.

How each app uses your toolkit

Support and installation are separate questions. Downloads lists Code Config builds; the Code Config app shows whether a coding app is available on this computer.
What works in each app
Section titled “What works in each app”Find the kinds of tools in your toolkit down the left, and your app across the top. Native works as written, Adapted is converted to the app’s own format, Limited loses some behavior along the way, and Unwritable means the app won’t receive it.
This table comes from compatibility policy version 2026-10-29.1, the same one the Code Config app uses. Limited means some behavior changes during conversion; machine-readable results call this level degraded.

The result applies to one tool type and one delivery method. Inspect the individual tool for conversion details and local setup requirements. Supported content can still need credentials or your approval.
Workflows are stored with a toolkit but are not installed as coding-app configuration. Marketplace entries identify catalogs rather than files to install. A toolkit can list a plugin that the app has not installed or activated.
